Relaxing is a critical component of achieving total fitness and reducing the hidden dangers of stress.

One commonly overlooked aspect of achieving total fitness is taking time to relax. Even if you exercise regularly and watch what you eat, it is important for your mind and body to have some daily down time. People that do not take the time to relax often experience unhealthy stress which can lead to a multitude of problems. The following is a short list of things that can happen when stress is not managed:

   - Weakened immune system

   - High blood pressure

   - Increased cholesterol that can lead to heart problems

   - Disrupted sleep patterns

   - Skin problems

   - Digestive problems

The list could go on and on and could include a multitude of other mental, emotional and behavioral problems. Therefore, it is important that you set aside at least 20 minutes everyday to relax.

Taking time to relax every day will help boost your energy levels, and help you improve your overall health. Going for a leisurely walk, reading a book, or taking a nap are just some of the ways to relax.

The most important point in this area is that you find a relaxing activity you enjoy. If you enjoy your relaxing time you will be far more likely to continue doing it.

Now, make a plan that includes daily relaxation time and begin to live a healthier, less stressful life!
